Reflection for January 23

All truth passes through three stages.
First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

—Arthur Schopenhauer

Reflection

It's almost a cliché that the first casualty in wartime is
the truth. Our presidents will lie to us under the pre–
text of "national security," or from the conviction that
we are too fearful or weak to handle the truth. How
then, can we believe a liar when he tells us the truth? I
don't, and neither do I have to be his judge. All I have
to do is clean up my side of the street.

Affirmation

Am I living a truthful day, without gloating at my own goodness?
