Reflection for January 4

Faces along the bar cling their average day:
The lights must never go out,
The music must always play

—W.H. Auden

Reflection

Alcohol made over lives very small. It cuts us off from
those we love and most of all it cuts us off from our–
selves. We developed a siege mentality. Fear dominated
us and the only solace was in the bar and the bottle.
We were like children afraid of the dark, convinced we
were no good. Sobriety is the beginning of the road
back to life when we leave the false security of the bot–
tle and the bar behind us.

Affirmation

Help me to remember that all I have to do is to stay
away from one drink one day at a time.
