If you don't clean your house for two months,
it doesn't get any dirtier.
—Quentin Crisp
Reflection
In the life of an active drunk, nothing gets any dirtier.
Nothing changes, really, except that the bottle keeps
emptying itself and somehow it must be refilled or
replaced. We don't notice the accumulation of dirty
clothing, dirty dishes, and the stink from our
unwashed bodies. After two months . . . or four (if we
live), we are oblivious to the wreckage piling up
around us.
Affirmation
What I'd like today, O Thou who art next to cleanli–
ness, is a bit of dignity and a laugh to go with it.
