I inherited a vile melancholy from my father,
which has made me mad all my life,
or at least, not sober.
—Samuel Johnson
Reflection
The good doctor complained of what was done to him
in life. He wrote profusely on all that bothered him,
and, unlike the rest of us, he got paid for his bitching
and moaning. If there is no benefit in complaining
about heredity, 'twould be as well to find out what I
liked about my father.
Affirmation
If my addiction is handed down, let me drop it in the
nearest grave so that I may live and not pass it ant fur-
ther.
