The man who starts out going nowhere
usually gets there.
—Dale Carnegie
Reflection
It's an old illusion we get from alcohol—that we are in
the midst of creative life. Great thoughts flow, magnif-
icent speeches come to mind, and witty retorts. Sophis-
tication reigns, and then we fade into a blackout,
awakening to a miserable headache, and an empty
pocket—once again . . . nowhere.
Affirmation
I'll set a goal for today, and it will include staying sober.
